MANILA, Philippines — Four areas in Luzon are forecasted to experience heavy to intense rainfall from Thursday through Saturday due to the influence of the shear line and the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), the state weather bureau announced on Wednesday.
In its 11 a.m. advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported that Aurora, Quezon, and Isabela would face intense rainfall from noon on Thursday, December 26, to noon on Friday, December 27. Rainfall in these areas is expected to range between 100 and 200 millimeters (mm).
Isabela, along with Cagayan, is projected to see continued heavy to intense rain from Friday noon, December 27, until noon on Saturday, December 28.
The shear line, which forms where warm and cold air masses meet, and the ITCZ, where winds from the northern and southern hemispheres converge, are driving these weather conditions.
The anticipated heavy to intense rainfall could lead to flooding in urban centers, low-lying areas, and coastal regions. Landslides are also possible in locations with moderate to high susceptibility.
Additionally, the following areas are expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall (50 to 100 mm) from Thursday to Saturday:
Thursday noon to Friday noon:
- Cagayan
- Apayao
- Camarines Norte
- Dinagat Islands
- Surigao del Norte
- Surigao del Sur
- Davao Oriental
Friday noon to Saturday noon:
- Apayao
- Aurora
- Dinagat Islands
- Surigao del Norte
